Our Mission: To facilitate the creation and operation of a dog park in the City of Georgetown, working with the city government, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the citizens of Georgetown.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
What is a Dog Park? It is an open structured area which accepts and invites people and their canine companions to off-leash fun, frolic, and friendship.
By some counts, dog parks are relatively new, with only about 200 in the US twenty years ago. In 2003, there were about 1200 dog parks with many more in development stages.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Why have a Dog Park? Dog parks can be great assets to communities, providing areas for dog friendly activities, separate from traditional picnic, playground, and jogging areas. Statistics show that over 35% of all households have dogs, and the average number of dogs in a residence household is 1.43 dogs. This means a community of 10,000 households has over 5,000 dogs. A dog park serves a similar proportion of the community population to that of children's playgrounds and athletic fields.
